Lars Mikkelsen is all set to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka and fans cannot contain their excitement. The Danish actor, who is also the brother of actor Mads Mikkelsen, voiced the fan favorite villain character in the 2016 animated series Star Wars Rebels. Despite Thrawn’s vast popularity among Star Wars fans, Ahsoka will be the first major live-action show to feature him.

The announcement for the Ahsoka series came during Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023. At the same Celebration Stage, Lars Mikkelsen’s superstar brother Mads introduced the latest Indiana Jones trailer where he plays the villain JĂ¼rgen Voller. Meanwhile, at the panel for Ahsoka, Lars was announced to reprise his live-action role of Grand Admiral Thrawn from the 2016 animated show.

Who is Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Star Wars universe and what is his role in Ahsoka?

Thrawn is a well-developed villain character in the Star Wars universe, although he may not be familiar to those who only know the live-action movies. He was originally from the Star Wars Legends, which is a collection of video games, comics, and books that were published before Disney’s ownership of Lucasfilm. Later, he was reintroduced into the official canon and was the main character in his own novel trilogy by Timothy Zahn.

Thrawn, who has ice blue skin and crimson red eyes, is a beloved villain among serious Star Wars fans. However, when Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, the Zahn novels were removed from the Star Wars canon and reclassified as Star Wars Legends. This was done to make space for the sequel film trilogy, starting with The Force Awakens in 2015.
