Netflix: Will Henry Cavill return in The Witcher Season 4?

Netflix Henry Cavill The Witcher Season 4

As Netflix wraps up the third season of The Witcher, fans begin to bid farewell to Henry Cavill as the main character, Geralt of Rivia. While the show has been renewed for a fourth season, the Man of Steel actor has been dropped from the cast, with Liam Hemsworth replacing him. However, there is still some uncertainty over this decision as fans hope for Henry Cavill’s return in Netflix’s The Witcher Season 4. Let’s explore the possibilities of what awaits the audience in the upcoming season and more.

Warning: Mild spoilers about Netflix’s The Witcher Season 3.

Henry Cavill’s departure from Netflix’s The Witcher

Let’s clear the air: Henry Cavill will not return as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4. It’s been quite some time – almost a year, to be exact – since he stopped the fandom with his Instagram post that announced his departure from the Netflix show after the third season and his replacement in Liam Hemsworth.

However, given that Season 3’s finale just wrapped up on the platform, the news remains a shock to many. The final episode reveals nothing about Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. Instead, Cavill gets a well-deserved sendoff in the final moments.

Towards the end of the episode, Geralt survives a battle with Vilgefortz and again bids farewell to Yennefer and Ciri. Notably, this is not the same neutral Geralt who abstains from political entanglements.

The departure of a pin he had carried since Season 1 symbolizes a significant change. This indicates that Hemsworth’s Geralt in Season 4 will explore the Continent’s political strife further.

What will happen in The Witcher Season 4?

With Liam Hemsworth set to debut as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4, the show is all set to embrace some new adventures. The upcoming season will see Geralt and his loyal companion Jaskier search for Ciri, who is now aligned with the Rats.

There are rumors about a potential Rats spinoff series on Netflix, similar to The Witcher: Blood Origin. This intends to bridge the gap between Season 3 and Season 4, though Netflix has yet to make official announcements.

Meanwhile, Yennefer assumes the role of de-facto leader of the mages and initiates the formation of the famous Lodge of Sorceresses. As she launches strikes against the Nilfgaardians and other threats to Ciri, tensions escalate within the Continent.

Nilfgaard’s ruler Emhyr var Emreis mistakenly believes he controls Ciri, but in reality, an imposter named Teryn is in her place. This sets the stage for an explosive and politically charged storyline in the upcoming season.

Why did Henry Cavill leave the show?

While Henry Cavill did not directly reveal the exact reasons for his exit in his Instagram post, there has been a lot of speculation around it. According to reports, he contemplated leaving after Season 2 due to creative differences with the producers.

The actor had been vocal about his desire to portray Geralt in a more book-accurate manner, which might have contributed to the divergence of visions. Cavill’s involvement in other projects could also have influenced his departure.

Notably, he returned briefly as Superman in the DC Extended Universe, but it was later confirmed that he would not continue in that role. The actor has a busy schedule with upcoming projects, including the Warhammer 4K series, “Argylle,” and a new film with director Guy Ritchie.
