Just when we thought the whole “photoshopped Princess Kate” drama was over, Kensington Palace throws another curveball.
Associated Press Pulls the Photo
Remember that picture of Kate and her kids that looked a little, shall we say, too perfect? The Associated Press (AP) basically debunked the photo, saying it was edited to the point of being fake news. This is a pretty big deal, considering the AP is one of the most trusted sources in the world.
When AP determined the photo appeared to have been manipulated, it issued what is known as a “photo kill,” an industry term that retracted the image and instructed clients to remove the photo from their systems. – Associated Press
Kensington Palace’s Response (or lack thereof)
When the AP called out the photo, Kensington Palace went radio silent. There was no denial, no explanation, just…nothing. Many thought this move was suspicious and believed that the Royal Family was “hiding something.”
Princess Kate Takes the Fall
Now, here comes the plot twist. Kate Middleton released a personal social media statement (not an official palace statement) apologizing for any “confusion” caused by the photo. Apparently, this picture Prince William took credit for is now somehow Kate’s editing experiment.
Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C

Adding fuel to the fire
Further fueling the controversy, a TikTok user has also attempted to analyze the photos, suggesting that the image might be a stitched or compilation of images taken in November 2023. Check out the video below to see their analysis.
@allynaston I have a strong suspicion that this “new” photo of Kate Middleton and her children was taken in November 2023 baded on the outfits. There is ample evidence of bad Photoshop throughout this photo and it is my personal opinion that it is because it is old and they try to change the outfits so that it didn’t look like a match. This is pure speculation and opinion based on my own research. #katemiddleton #whereiskate #whereiskatemiddleton #princessofwales #kensingtonpalace #britishroyals #british #popculture #popculturenews
Is This Really About Editing?
This whole thing feels less about a rogue edit and more about a massive trust issue. The public isn’t buying the “amateur photographer” story. And honestly, can you blame them? This isn’t the first time the royals have been caught with their editing tools out.
Here’s the thing: they could release the raw images and potentially solve the problem. However, there is now a lack of trust. People don’t believe what the palace is saying, and a social media apology (from Kate or otherwise) isn’t going to fix that. This is a PR nightmare, and it’s not going away anytime soon.
More Than Just a Pretty Picture
- This whole fiasco is just a symptom of a larger issue. The public’s trust in the royal family has been eroding for years.
- There’s a lot of baggage, from Harry and Meghan to the Queen’s passing. Now, every photo and statement will be seen through a skeptical lens.
So, what’s next for Kate? Even if she’s not to blame for the editing, she’s facing months of scrutiny. The palace needs a serious reality check, and fast. What do you think? Is this a harmless editing mishap, or a sign of deeper problems within the palace?
