Star Wars: Top 3 Clues the Mortis Gods Will Return in Ahsoka 2

Mortis Gods

The first season of Ahsoka concluded with a major cliffhanger and several unanswered questions. For instance, what is Grand Admiral Thrawn planning to do on Dathomir? And what will happen to the ones who were left behind on Peridea to discover a greater power? Not surprisingly, fans are now expecting the return of the Mortis Gods in Ahsoka Season 2.

In the Ahsoka finale, Baylan Skoll abandoned the mission to capture and kill Ezra Bridger to search for a greater power that has been calling to him. The mercenary’s search led him to a rocky mountain carved with the statues of the Ones, who appear to be overlooking a valley. It’s a presence that has already led to numerous theories about Ahsoka Season 2 and how the Mortis Gods will return to play a more significant role in the Star Wars Universe.

First of all… Who are the Mortis Gods?

To understand the Gods, it is important to understand Mortis. Although it is listed as a planet, Mortis is also a mystical realm of the Force, which allows it to exist on any (or every) star system in the Star Wars Universe. Mortis is home to only three known inhabitants: The Father, The Daughter, and The Son, who are powerful Force-wielders just as mysterious and strong as the realm they inhabit.

The Father, The Daughter, and The Son are referred to as The Ones. After their introduction in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 3 Episode 15, they have been known as the Mortis Gods. The Daughter represents the Light Side of the Force, while The Son is aligned with the Dark Side. In Overlords, it was confirmed that The Father maintained the balance of the Force between the two and that he believed Anakin Skywalker, who is known as the Chosen One, would take his place in Mortis.

But why are the Ones being referred to in the Ahsoka finale? And what could this mean for the Force-wielders who are stuck on Peridea? The final episode left some clues suggesting that the Ones will play a major role in Ahsoka Season 2.

1) Baylan Skoll’s Search for a Greater Power

Ahsoka Episode 6 already confirmed that Baylan Skoll sensed a great power on Peridea, but he wasn’t talking about the Dathomiri witches who inhabited the planet. Baylan deduced that the Great Mothers were desperate to leave Peridea because of a power greater than their own and claimed it was calling to him. By the season finale, the Grey Jedi located the statues of the Mortis Gods but discovered the Father was pointing to something towards the valley ahead of them.

It certainly appears that the Father is guiding Baylan towards something on the horizon, which means Baylan’s quest is far from over. It is believed that the Mortis Gods will continue to guide him toward his destiny in Ahsoka Season 2 despite the unfortunate passing of actor Ray Stevenson.

2) A Familiar Bird in a Different Galaxy

One of the most mysterious moments in Ahsoka Episode 8 is the appearance of a familiar bird as Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren reunited with the Noti tribe. A convor bird mysteriously appeared to be watching over the Jedi, and due to its interest in Ahsoka, it is strongly believed to be Morai, the bird with a strong spiritual connection to the Daughter.

There’s a good reason why Morai repeatedly appears out of nowhere and continues following Ahsoka. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the dying Daughter transferred her life force to the dead Apprentice, effectively reviving Ahsoka with the help of Anakin Skywalker.

Since then, Morai has followed Ahsoka and continues to do so in the live-action show. Still, Morai’s presence in Peridea, where the Daughter is notably defaced on the mountain, once again suggests that the bird is a manifestation of the Daughter herself in another form. Is the Daughter making her presence felt by Ahsoka in an effort to guide the Jedi to her destiny?

3) Anakin Skywalker in Peridea

Anakin Skywalker might be the best thing about the first season of Ahsoka. Hayden Christensen’s return was well accepted as Anakin reunited with his Apprentice in the World Between Worlds and imparted a final lesson. Christensen showed up sporadically throughout the series, whether as an old hologram that Ahsoka saved all these years or as an essential presence in the mystical realm. However, Anakin’s most interesting appearance was as a Force ghost watching over Ahsoka and Sabine Wren on Peridea.

It’s no secret that the Father wanted Anakin to replace him to bring balance to the Force. But is it possible that Anakin has finally taken his place as an important Mortis God? His presence both in the World Between Worlds and on Peridea strongly suggests that Anakin is more than just a Force ghost at this point since it seemed like even Sabine had sensed him in the Ahsoka finale. With that in mind, we may have been watching one of the (new) Mortis Gods in action this whole time.

Ahsoka Season 2 has not yet been officially announced. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
