Battle of the Queens: Which Street Woman Fighter Season Performed Better?

The better season of Street Woman Fighter

The fierce battle of the legendary dancers is ongoing on Mnet Street Woman Fighter 2 after the massive success of Street Woman Fighter debut season that swept the nation away with mesmerizing stages and powerful battles. Following the initial success, Mnet launched various sequels, including Street Dance Girls Fighter, Any Body Can Dance, Be Mbitious, and Street Man Fighter.

However, neither of those could compete with the craze of the Street Woman Fighter series. If we were to pick the best season from SWF 1 and SWF 2, which would it be? This curious question has been raging over social media since the second season’s premiere, so today, let’s dive deeper and find the better season of Street Woman Fighter.

To do so, we will closely examine each season’s crews, missions, battles, and overall impact. So, let’s get right into this battle of the queens to find the better season of Street Woman Fighter.

Street Woman Fighter: The Crews

Both seasons of Street Woman Fighter featured eight dance crews specializing in various genres, including Hip Hop, Waacking, Choreography, and more. These crews are formed of respected dancers with a long legacy and an ambition to continue taking their passion on a bigger stage. Let’s take a closer look at them.

SWF 1 Crews

Street Woman Fighter’s debut season included some of the strongest dance crews with expertise in choreography, such as YGX, LACHICA, and WAYB, as well as crews that specialized in street dancing, such as HolyBang, PROWDMON, and CocaNButter. The season also included the trendsetter dancer crew Hook and the avenger crew of 1MILLION Dance Academy, WANT.

All eight crews included members that are well known among the dancers as the queens of their genre, such as Waackers Lip J (PROWDMON), Peanut (LACHICA), and Rosali n(WANT). B-boy Yell (YGX) and former dance hall dancer Zsun (CocaNButter).

These crews were led by the leaders Lee Jung, Gabee, NO:ZE, HoneyJ, Monika, Rihey, Aiki, and Hyojin Choi, who are teachers of the teachers and also the trendsetters of their industry. Following the success of Street Woman Fighter, these eight crews have become a household name.

SWF 2 Crews

Meanwhile, the Street Woman Fighter season 2 includes many crews that are formed mainly to participate in the competition. A major attraction for this season is the two global dance crews, JAM REPUBLIC, including Kristin from the Royal Family crew, and Japanese crew TSUBAKILL, led by Akane.

The show also features the strongest waacking team, MANNEQUEEN, battlers team WolfLo, and longest-running crew, Lady Bounce. Along with the choreography teams, 1MILLION, DEEP N DAP, and BEBE are the faces behind many famous K-pop songs.

Each of these crews is led by the leaders Lia Kim, Bada Lee, Mina Myoung, Kristen, Nob, Funky Y, Akane, and Halo, who are reputable in the industry for their legacy regardless of the years of their careers. However, these crews haven’t caught the audiences’ hearts as the crews from Street Woman Fighter’s debut season.

Street Woman Fighter’s Legendary No Respect Battles

Both seasons began with No Respect Battles before launching into various missions. The SWF 1 gave multiple memorable moments throughout these battles, including Monika’s iconic performance on Seo Taiji’s Come Back Home against Zsun, Lip J and Peanut’s waacking, Gabee and Aiki’s battle of wits, and the emotional reunion of Honey J and Rihey after their well-known fallout.

On the other hand, Street Woman Fighter 2 showcased the battles in a special Legend Stage episode. However, only a few crews, namely JAM REPUBLIC, MANNEQUEEN, and WolfLo, managed to give memorable moments.

If one were to imagine the dancers from Season 1 battling with the dancers from Season 2, then the debut season is likely to take home the trophy with their wit, stage presence, expression, and clean lines, as both the season crews are experts in their fields.

Street Woman Fighter: Hardest Missions

Following the battles, Street Woman Fighter goes through missions that test the crews’ teamwork, techniques, creativity, leadership, and more. Some of the tasks that fans particularly look forward to are the Leader Battle in Class Mission and Mega Crew Mission. (They also look forward to the Man of the Woman mission, but it comes a little later in the show, which hasn’t been released yet for the second season).

  • The leader group battle in Class Mission is particularly tough as it is truly the best versus best. In Season 1, NO:ZE won this mission, creating the viral choreography for the Hey Mama Challenge. In Season 2, Bada Lee took the w by creating the viral choreography for Smoke Challenge.
  • Now, if we place the Hey Mama Challenge in competition with the Smoke Challenge, the latter has undoubtedly taken over the trends. It is simple, powerful, and swaggy but requires a solid foundation to pull off.

Similarly, for the Mega Crew Mission, HolyBang won the challenge in the debut season with 43 dancers showcasing the essence of hip-hop. Meanwhile, in the second season, the crew of 1 MILLION blew off audiences with 100 dancers showcasing impeccable storytelling, clean formation, synchronization, and mindblowing wow moments.

  • Therefore, Street Woman Fighter 2 would win the hardest missions of the dance survival challenge if they were to compete with each other. This rating brings us to a 50-50 stage with SWF 1’s powerful battles and SWF 2’s mindblowing choreographies. We look at the overall reception of the show.

Public’s reception and viewership of Street Woman Fighter seasons

An artist is known for his audience as much as for his art. Due to this, it is crucial to take a look at the viewership rating of Street Woman Fighter’s seasons to decide which is the better one. Although season 2 is only halfway through, we can make a tentative guess based on the recent ratings.

The highest rating of the debut season of Street Woman Fighter was 2.887% nationwide and 3.917% in the capital Seoul. Meanwhile, the current highest rating of Street Woman Fighter 2 is 2.633% nationwide and 3.961% in Seoul.

On the other hand, the lowest rating of season 1 was 1.871% nationwide and 2.476% in Seoul. While the lowest rating of season 2 is 1.529% nationwide and 2.157% in Seoul. The general impact of Street Woman Fighter season 1 was more remarkable than season 2.

Conclusion

While both the seasons of Street Woman Fighter have their strengths and weaknesses, the general impact of the debut season is greater than the ongoing one. The original Street Woman Fighter not only managed to place the faces behind the famous choreographies on the center stage, but the crew also managed to reach the hearts of the audiences, becoming a household name.

Moreover, the eight crews introduced the Street Dance on a mainstream platform and started a dance revolution. Regardless, the match is still on, and it is upon the audience to decide which is truly the better season of Street Woman Fighter. For me, it is the debut season.
