Tencent picks up a piece of Bohemia Interactive pie

Chinese transnational technology conglomerate holding company Tencent has recently invested in Bohemia Interactive. The Czech studio is best know for its military simulator game series Arma and online survival game DayZ.

First reported by GamesIndustry on 9th February, Tencent has picked up minority stakes in Bohemia interactive. The company will however, continue to function independently, helmed by the existing, management team. Earlier this year, Tencent acquired majority stakes in Klei Entertainment, creators of the popular games Don’t Starve, Mark of the Ninja and Oxygen Not Included among many others.

“We are pleased to deepen our relationship with Tencent, one of the most significant internet companies in the world. We look forward to working on our current and future generations of games with the support of a strong partner that has known us for many years and understands our unique approach to online games,” said Marek Španěl, CEO of Bohemia Interactive.

The move is expected to create a synergy between the two companies and introduce Bohemia Interactive’s latest PC/mobile sandbox game creation platform Ylands to the Chinese video game market.
