It’s rare sight to see rap legend Eminem out there signing new artists and even rare that he and Dre are doing it together. The last time these two music icons did that was when they signed 50 Cent many years ago. Now, Eminem handpicked another up-and-coming rapper, the Filipino sensation, Ez Mil. But, why did Em sign the young rap artist to his music label? Here are what we think are the top 5 reasons why Eminem took Ez Mil under his wings.
5. Ez Mil could be the next Slim Shady
It’s a bit of a reach to say Ez Mil will achieve the same success as Eminem. However, with how 50 Cent’s career took off, it wouldn’t be surprising if Ez Mil does the same. Moreover, Dre has a good eye for talent and hopefully, they are right.
Ez Mil is a Filipino-American rapper who was originally born and raised in the Philippines but later on, moved to the U.S. to continue his dreams in the music industry. One could say that Ez Mil is just like Eminem, a minority in the industry ruled by black men. Oftentimes, fans of rap music overlook how great Em is because he is white. Well, he will always be one of the best in our books!
4. Up Down (Step & Walk)
At this point, almost everybody knows why Eminem signed Ez Mil. It’s because of his song “Up Down (Step & Walk)”. Part of his DU4LI7Y album, Up Down (Step & Walk) caught the attention of Marshal Mathers.
After hearing that, Em told Ez Mil to fly from Vegas to Los Angeles to meet him and Dre. Surprisingly, the interaction went well and then they signed Ez Mil. In addition to that, Eminem found some similarities in his style and Ez Mil’s, resulting to a partnership.
3. Ez Mil is the whole package
Believe it or not, Ez Mil is already the complete package. He writes and produces his own songs, as well as being his very own rapper/singer. Not only that, but he has the moves too. In some of his music videos, we can see Ez Mil dancing while rapping. Truly, he is one of a kind.
2. Ez Mil’s music is special
Eminem is very selective, but even the real Slim Shady admits that Ez Mil’s music is special and different. Well, it’s mainly because the 25-year-old rap artist wants to be different and divert from the mainstream. The dude is unique in many aspects.
Also, Dre agreed on Em’s take. “I’m really only interested in working on shit that sounds different from anything else going on out there, and only then if I feel I can really bring something to it. Em played me Ez and I had that feeling…that thing that happens when we both know we’ve found something special. And that was it….let’s get to work.”
1. Em was super impressed
Overall, it all boils down to the number one reason why Eminem signed Ez Mil. The top reason behind all of these is that Em is impressed. Arguably one of the best rappers in history, Eminem has had his ups and downs in the music industry.
But, to impress the 15-time Grammy award winner is no easy feat. Ez Mil’s multisyllabic rhyme scheme, style, and flow are really what made Em pushed the button and signed Ez Mil to the Shady Records and Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment.
Who is Ez Mil?
Ez Mil is a Filipino-American rising rap artist. Born Ezekiel Miller on July 27, 1998, in Olongapo City, Philippines, Ez Mil would be set to become another musician in the family. His father is no other than Paul Sapiera, who was famously known as the vocalist of the ’80s Filipino rock band called RockStar. The group was known for beloved songs like “Mahal Pa Rin Kita” and “Parting Time” which are still being remembered to this day. Meanwhile, Ezekiel’s mother, Hazel Miller, also worked in the music industry for some time.

Miller is very Filipino for he was born and raised in the Philippines
In addition to that. he stayed in the country for most of his years and studied college there. After graduating from high school, he moved to Baguio to study architecture but dropped out after a year and a half. He moved to Urdaneta City in Pangasinan for another two years before leaving for the U.S., where he lived in Seattle, California, and Las Vegas, which he now calls home. His career started in 2019 and immediately took off in 2021 when he released the song “Panalo”. Miller’s performance in the Wish USA Bus had the internet buzzing mainly because of how amazing of a rapper he is and his historically inaccurate verse stating LapuLapu was beheaded. The rapper made rounds on the internet but was nonetheless accepted by his Filipino fans.
