Since its release, plenty of titles have been released for Nintendo’s latest console. Its catalogue is only growing with each year that passes, so expect to find something on there that will be to your liking. Of course, it’s always a matter of personal preference. However, it’s inevitable to become curious as to why some games outsell other titles.

The top-selling games for the Nintendo Switch are updated every three to four months. But there are still titles, regardless of genre, that always come out on top since the community agrees they’re something every player with a Switch should play.

Here are 5 of the top-selling games on the Nintendo Switch, ranked according to how much we had fun playing these the first time we got our hands on it.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Quite an obvious choice, no? We believe every gamer should play at least one Zelda game in their life. If you’re not into the classic pixel Zelda games, this is an excellent option for your Nintendo Switch. Prepare to have your breath taken away by the magnificent environment and gameplay that BoTW gives to its players.

This is also an excellent choice for gamers who want to get lost in the large map of BoTW. There are plenty of things to do in this open-world RPG as you take on the role of Link once more. Plus, the sequel is coming soon, so now would be a good time to spend your hours on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch!

2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Compared to the first title on our ranking, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the top-selling game on the Nintendo Switch. As of September 2022, the game has sold over 48 million copies worldwide. Mario has always been the mascot for Nintendo, and even though there are plenty of racing games on the market nowadays, Mario Kart always hits the sweet spot for us.

Whether you want to sit down and play a casual game or you’re feeling competitive to take on other players from all around the world, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an excellent game for the Switch!

3. Pokemon Legends: Arceus

We know, we know. You were probably expecting another Pokemon title to make this list, but hear us out, all right? Pokemon Legends: Arceus managed to transform the traditional way of playing Pokemon games.

Yes, Scarlet and Violet did come out, and yes, we appreciated how it was the first open-world title in the franchise. However, Arceus is a refreshing take on the Pokemon titles we have. If you were to ask us, it met almost all the expectations we want from a perfect Pokemon game.

4. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Another obvious choice that made it on our ranking is Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I love cozy, simulation games such as Animal Crossing. I remember spending hours playing Animal Crossing: City Folk back when the concept of playing with other players wasn’t popular.

With New Horizons, you can meet other players, making it possible for you to form virtual friendships. Plus, the support and updates that have come out for New Horizons only heighten the experience all the more. Can you really call yourself a legit Nintendo Switch owner if you don’t have this game in your library yet?

5. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

It would be a crime if we didn’t include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in a Nintendo Switch game ranking. Nintendo always does a good job releasing Smash Bros. games, and they didn’t falter for the Switch version. This game is great to have in your library regardless if you’re the competitive type or not. You may disagree with us, but this has to be said: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the top-tier Smash Bros. game.

If you just want casual matches with your friends, you can do so and pick any character you want to fight for you. But with SSBU, you can also challenge other players and see if you have what it takes to come out on top. This is an excellent addition to your collection if you ask us.
