Will Counter-Strike 2 reset your CS: GO rank?

Counter-Strike 2 ranks

Counter-Strike has been a cult classic for many shooter fans and a new sequel is on the way this Summer. The game will be more of an upgrade package to the already existing CSGO, which has had a long reign. Counter-Strike 2 will be shipping with new features like dynamic smokes and 128-tick servers which have been heavily requested by fans.

However, the oncoming release has also raised doubts in players whether their ranks will be reset with CS2. While there is no official announcement from Valve’s end, it is highly likely that ranks won’t be reset. As mentioned above, Counter-Strike 2 will be an upgrade package over CSGO and everything will be kept as it is.

No, your rank will be safe after the release of Counter-Strike 2

Ranks play a crucial role in competitive games in general and the same remains for Valve’s own first-person shooter. With in-game ranks, players can understand their skill level to some extent and help find the right opponents to play against.

Thus, the importance of ranks in competitive shooters is rightfully set. That is just a generalized idea and doesn’t really explain a player’s skill accurately. However, to most of the players rank remains to be a prestigious thing for all.

With the news of Counter-Strike 2 coming up, many felt fear that they might lose their ranked progress. In reality, there is no mention of ranked changes with Source 2 powered CS2. The ranking system will remain the same, and the only changes it will see are mostly visual and performance related.

However, you will lose your rank if you don’t play the game for more than 30 days or so. During this, you have to regain a rank by playing one competitive match. With this match, Counter-Strike 2 will reanalyze your rank and display it on your profile. So, there is no question of losing rank after the upcoming upgrade arriving in Summer 2023.
