The battle for gaming console supremacy between Xbox Series X and PS5 has been going on for quite some time now. But, just recently, Xbox Series X won the competition against PS5 by winning in sales, again.
Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X were released at around the same time in 2020. The Xbox Series X came out on November 10, while the PS5 was launched just a few days after (June 12, 2020). Since its release, gamers are constantly having a hard time getting their hands on these two consoles. There has been a shortage in stocks in which the supply cannot catch up with the demand. One reason behind this problem is the never-ending global shortage of microchips. With this, new stocks are immediately sold out within seconds after stores re-stocking their shelves (or online carts).

Xbox Series X/S Wins in Revenue Against PS5 and Nintendo Switch in the U.S. (March)

Xbox Series S Outsells PS5 in Japan (May)
Last month, for the very first time, Xbox Series S outsold PS5 in one of the most prominent and influential gaming countries – Japan. Though this is not the Xbox Series X that we are talking about, this information would support why Xbox is beating PlayStation with regards to sales in recent memory. Subsequently, this event is also the first time a new generation Xbox console beats a PS5 in the country.
Xbox Series X Beats PS5 in Japan (June)
Previously, Xbox Series S topped PS5 in Japan. With its unprecedented success, it was inevitable that Xbox Series X would follow. On June 13, in an announcement from Microsoft, Xbox Series X had already sold 3,272 units compared to PS5’s 3,035 units.
In the first quarter of 2022, Xbox Series X sales have been soaring through the sky. Back in April, the total Xbox Series X/S sales have been coming in very close to that of PS5. As the gap of consoles being sold gets closer by the day, it is not surprising that Xbox Series X would take the throne as the leading gaming console in terms of total units sold, not just in the U.S., but worldwide.
Currently, PS5 still holds the advantage over Xbox Series X/S, but both of these consoles got beaten by Nintendo Switch. With a total sales of 50,405 (in Japan last week), Nintendo still tops the charts.
In totality, Sony’s PS5 has now sold more than 20 million units worldwide. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S is reaching more than 14 million in sales, worldwide.
Gamers who are trying their best to get their hands on the elusive PS5 are now resorting to purchasing units from poachers and scalpers. However, there have been a lot of tips and tricks that are now surfacing online. For one, @Wario64 (Twitter) found a solution to this conundrum. In their recent post on Twitter, they said that there is actually a secret way to purchase a PS5 through your local Best Buy stores.
Still, getting a PS5 in the future is not assured to be any easier. Fortunately, as informed by Sony, they will be increasing the production of PS5 in the coming months.
