Emilia Clarke is the new face joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress has made an appearance in the latest Secret Invasion trailer. The Disney+ show will revolve around Skrulls, their hardship to find a home, and Nick Fury fighting against Skrull radicals that want to take over the planet.
Clarke seems to be playing a pivotal role in the series. According to Vanity Fair, the Game of Thrones actress has been cast in the role of G’iah (pronounced guy-ah). G’iah is a war-born, Skrull activist fighting to find her people a place in the world. The series will also star Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Colman, and Cobie Smulders.
In this article, we will look at G’iah’s character in the comics, as well as what Emilia Clarke thinks about playing her.
Emilia Clarke feels her character has a “punk” feel
G’iah is Talos’ daughter. We know Talos from the 2019 movie, Captain Marvel, where Nick Fury helped him and other Skrulls fight against the Kree. As the movie concluded we, as viewers, were introduced to Talos’ family, including a young G’iah. Later, the aliens left Earth to find a new planet home protected by Captain Marvel.
However, according to other source material, the Skrulls couldn’t find a permanent home, and many made Earth (616) their permanent residence. They hid under human pretense and worked undercover collecting information.
According to Emilia Clarke, the war on her planet, and her father’s image have hardened G’iah.
While talking to Vanity Fair she said:
“It’s hardened her, for sure. There’s a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl.”
She also hinted at the tension between G’iah and Talos and explained that his absence during most of G’iah’s childhood also adds to the rift. She added that her character has “a certain amount of resentment” towards Fury as well. The reason behind this disdain is Fury’s failed promises to provide the Skrulls with a home. Clarke added:
“There’s a lot of emotions that live within her, and there’s a lot of confrontational aspects to her character that have come from circumstance. You understand why she has the feelings that she does.”
According to Marvel Fandom, G’iah lived on Earth under the name Gloria Warner. She married fellow agent Klrr and has three daughters, Madison, Alkss II, and Ivy. Her entire family worked undercover for the Skrull High Command until her partner died on a mission.
We are yet to see what the show will bring to the viewers and how the showrunners will portray the character. It is scheduled to air on Disney+ starting June 21, 2023.
