Dodge is giving its legendary Hemi V8 muscle cars the sendoff they deserve. The age of gasoline-performance cars will not come to an end quietly. Instead with the screeching and smoking of tortured tires. Is it the end? Not really, as the Dodges brings back the Challenger SRT Demon for the last hurrah. Stick around to know more!
Dodge Challenger and Charger muscle cars’ seventh and final Last Call edition is to be revealed on Mar 20, 2023, at Las Vegas drag strip. With the end of the V8 era, the occasion will also mark the celebration of Dodge’s new era of performance with electrification.
Farewell to the V8 Hemi-powered muscle car era
The brand claiming itself as “American performance” will say goodbye to its iconic muscle cars powered by the Hemi V-8 engine. The $96,666 Dodge Challenger generates 1,025 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.66 seconds.
The Brampton, Ontario plant that manufactures these cars will cease operations on December 31st. In order to retool the production of new vehicles that have not yet been revealed.
What’s next for Dodges 2023’s Challenger and Charger?
The 2023 Challenger and Charger will feature a “Last Call” placard under the hood, even if they aren’t a special edition, to mark the final year of production.
The “Jailbreak” label will now be used on regular Hellcats and Redeye models. Offering a greater degree of personalization with various interior and exterior colors, wheels, and other features for lower trims.
- And as expected from Dodge, a new model year brings fresh paint colors to their lineup.
- In addition to the existing range of colors, including the well-liked Destroyer Grey, Dodge will reintroduce B5 Blue, Plum Purple, and Sublime Green for a total of 14 color options in 2023.
Dodge brings Challenger SRT Demon for the last hurrah
Called the Challenger SRT Demon 170, this car will mark the culmination of Dodge’s modern muscle car parade. Which started in 2014 with the 707-hp supercharged 2015 SRT Charger sedan, and will be street-legal.
At Dodge HQ in Auburn Hills, Tim Kuniskis, the brand’s chief, hailed the Hellcats and Demons as the benchmarks of factory-built insanity. While unveiling the alcohol-powered Demon 170, proclaiming it to be the new pinnacle of the factory.
Kuniskis stated that the supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 in the Demon 170 is essentially entirely new to handle the power it produces. He also said:
“Only its camshafts and valve springs are unchanged from Dodge’s previous peak moment of lunacy, the 840-hp 2018 Challenger Demon.”
Is Demon 170 made for drag racing? More features explored
The Demon 170 is designed for drag racing despite being street-legal. Its Hemi engine is capable of generating a maximum of 1,025 horsepower and 945 pound-feet of torque.

- According to tests by Motor Trend magazine, the Tesla S Plaid, currently renowned for its electric vehicle acceleration, reaches 60 mph in 1.98 seconds.
