Raise your wands Potterheads, another great soul has left us again. Sir Michael Gambon, who is famous for portraying Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies, has passed away. He is only 82 years old. But, how did the British icon die? What happened?

Michael Gambon’s Cause of Death; What Happened?

Sir Michael Gambon died on September 27, 2023, in his home in Witham, Essex, England. At the time of his passing, the award-winning actor was 82 years old. In light of the sorrowful event, publicist Clair Dobbs released a statement about Gambon’s death on behalf of the celebrity’s family, Philippa Hart (spouse) and Fergus Gambon (son). In the statement also reads the cause of Michael Gambon’s death, which is revealed to be Pneumonia.

“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82. We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.”

Those who are close to Michael Gambon and even his fans mourned the actor’s death. Actors, actresses, and writers he once worked with in the Harry Potter movie adaptation gave their respects and celebrated the Olivier award-winner through social media. Some of them are J.K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter books), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick, Griphook), and James Phelps (Fred Weasley). More celebrity has also paid tributes to the one and only Michael Gambon.

On the other hand, Daniel Radcliffe, who played the titular character Harry Potter, released a statement on how much he loved Michael Gambon.

“He was silly, irreverent and hilarious. He loved his job, but never seemed defined by it. He was an incredible story, and joke teller, and his habit of blurring the lines between fact and fiction when talking to journalists meant that he was also one of the most entertaining people with whom you could ever wish to do a press junket. I’m so sad to hear he has passed, but I am so grateful for the fact that I am one of the lucky people who got to work with him.”

Who is Michael Gambon?

Sir Michael Gambon is an Irish-British TV personality who was born on October 19, 1940, in Dublin. Before entering the world of show business, Gambon was an engineering technician and had a thing for collecting antique items like guns, clocks, watches, and cars. Even after many years, he was still passionate about this hobby.

In the 1960s, Gambon worked as a set builder in an amateur theatre in London. There, he began entertaining people by first joining screenplays in minor roles. He was even a ballet dancer, which he revealed during an interview with Top Gear. Slowly, Gambon became a household name in opera and was becoming more popular.

(Trivia: A Top Gear test track corner was named after him, the “Gambon Corner”).

In the late ’90s and early 2000s, Gambon’s career would peak after winning multiple Olivier awards, 1 Tony, and 1 Golden Globe trophy. In 1998, the celebrated actor was formally knighted by Prince Charles at the Buckingham Palace. Although he was known for being a versatile actor due to his different approach to his roles, Gambon will always be remembered as the beloved headmaster at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series. Throughout his career, Michael Gambon would be known as a Broadway icon, comedian, voice actor, and an established TV/movie actor.
