A month ago, Marvel Rivals alpha test registrations began. As usual, many websites, journalists, and creators requested codes. Usually, publishers ask you to agree to a contract or a NDA. The contract for Marvel Rivals, however, explicitly mentions you’re not encouraged to publish anything negative about the game, regardless of how your experience was.
Shared by Brandon Larned, a streamer who goes by Seagull, we get a glimpse at the “Non-Disparagement” clause of the contract. It mentions how you are not allowed to engage in “malicious comparisons with competitors” and provide “subjective negative reviews of the game”.
Isn’t a review mostly subjective based on your experience with the game?
It also states that the Content Creator “agrees not to make any public statements or engage in discussions that are detrimental to the reputation of the game”. It also prohibits you from “making disparaging or satirical comments about any game-related material, such as game features, characters, or music.”
So, what are you allowed to do? Play the game and smile all through it?
Seagull tweeted this regarding the issue:
“Extremely disappointed in Marvel Rivals. Multiple creators asked for key codes to gain access to the playtest and are asked to sign a contract. The contract signs away your right to negatively review the game. Many streamers have signed without reading just to play Insanity.”
