There is little doubt that Kylo Ren was one of the most interesting characters to be introduced in the Star Wars sequel films, and he also happened to be part of a beloved sci-fi dynasty. Unfortunately, Ben Solo ultimately sacrificed himself to ensure the survival of Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. On the other hand, fans still believe that we haven’t seen the last of the former Jedi and that he will return in Daisy Ridley’s upcoming film.
On April 2023, it was announced that Daisy Ridley will reprise the character in an upcoming film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The film, which was confirmed during Star Wars Celebration 2023, is set to take place fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and it will focus on Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. Although Ridley is the only name confirmed for the project, the news led to speculations about the return of Kylo Ren.
Will Kylo Ren Show Up in Rey’s Planned Star Wars Movie?
If there’s one thing that people have come to expect in the Star Wars Universe, it’s the fact that Force users don’t stay dead for long. Throughout the films, books, and TV shows, Force users continued to return as Force ghosts who guide the living.
This is the most obvious way that Kylo Ren could return in Rey’s new film. It is possible that Ben Solo’s Force ghost will continue communicating with Daisy Ridley’s character. However, this isn’t the only Star Wars project that could bring back Adam Driver‘s character.
Could Kylo Ren Return in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars Movie?
While it’s still shrouded in mystery, recent comments from Shawn Levy have raised fans’ hopes of seeing Adam Driver reprise his iconic role. In 2022, Lucasfilm announced that Shawn Levy would be directing a Star Wars film. Although the Stranger Things producer’s project wasn’t specifically detailed among the three upcoming Star Wars films announced at a Star Wars Celebration event, speculation has been growing about the potential involvement of Adam Driver.
During an interview with Variety, Shawn Levy was asked about the possibility of Adam Driver returning to the Star Wars franchise in his upcoming film. When queried if his project might be a prequel to The Force Awakens, enabling Driver to reprise the role of Kylo Ren, Levy responded by saying he’s a “huge fan of Kylo Ren. But no comment.”
Levy and Adam Driver had previously collaborated on the 2014 film This is Where I Leave You. While Shawn Levy chose not to address the possibility of Driver’s return explicitly, his acknowledgment of being a fan of Kylo Ren suggests the door is not entirely closed.
It’s important to remember that Levy’s Star Wars film is still several years away, and concrete answers remain elusive. In 2020, sources had indicated that Lucasfilm was working on a project featuring Ben Solo, with the assumption being that it could be a prequel to The Force Awakens.
