Top 10 Must-have Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet – Ranked

Over 400 Pokémon are available in the Scarlet and Violet titles. Picking the right ones is essential to your journey from Junior Trainer to Champion of Paldea. It’s hard to bring all Pokémon into a singular category for ranking them, due to different parameters like competitive base stats, early and late game usage as well as their legendary status. Read to find out how we rank the top 10 must-have Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet.

1. Flutter Mane

Exclusive to Scarlet, this ancient Paradox Pokémon has a staggering 135 across Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed.

  • On the negative side, the special stats bring down other numbers but it’s hard to deny the greatness of Flutter Mane, especially against Special Attackers.

2. Gholdengo

Evolving a Gholdengo might be demanding but that doesn’t change the fact it’s one of the best competitive Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet. The Good as Gold ability gives it immunity to any status moves, making it a must-have Pokémon.

3. Baxcalibur

This dual Dragon/Ice-type Pokémon is ranked high in terms of offense especially against Fire-type moves. With a base stat total of 600, Baxcalibur could take down even stronger pseudo-legendary Pokémon.

4. Dragapult

This Dragon/Ghost type is exclusive to Violet as it can be obtained only by evolving Drakloak. Dragapult’s base stat total of 600 and stunning speed of 142 makes it a fiery contender. At the same time, it’s not too hard to acquire either.

5. Roaring Moon

Roaring Moon is another Paradox Pokémon exclusive to Scarlet just like Flutter Mane. They can be found in large numbers in the same secluded caves. This massively strong Pokémon is a Paradox version of Salamence from Violet.

6. Garchomp

Despite its non-legendary status, Garchomp is still one of the most beloved Pokémon of all time. It can learn a lot of powerful moves and inflict heavy damage on opponents. It has access to some sick moves like Earthquake, Draco Meteor, and Dragon Rush.

7. Iron Valiant

Iron Valiant is a fighting and fairy type Pokémon exclusive to Violet. It’s one of the most powerful, popular as well as difficult-to-find Pokémon introduced recently. Iron Valiant’s Quark Drive gives it a 50% speed boost, meaning it almost always attacks first.

8. Kingambit

Kingambit is not a Pokémon that players can find but rather evolve a Bisharp into a competitive Pokémon ready for battle. It’s a high-risk, high-reward Pokémon making it a strong revenge killer in any game.

9. Annihilape

Annihilape cannot be put to sleep thanks to its Vital Spirit ability. With access to the Final Gambit move that reduces your opponent’s HP to your current one, Annihilape is a safe competitive choice.

10. Maushold

The cute-looking Maushold can take both roles of attacker and support which makes it a formidable Pokémon on your team. Apart from a superior speed of 111, Maushold is equally balanced in the 70s with other stats.

Since their release in November last year, Scarlet and Violet have been the most pre-ordered titles in Pokémon series history. The critical reception might have been middling but that didn’t stop fans from going berserk with new Pokémon from the games.
