Why Most K-Pop Artists Aim October Comebacks | All Year-End Releases So Far

Why are so many K-pop artists scheduled for October comebacks?

The last quarter of the year is a time of wielding a double-edged sword for K-pop artists. All the groups line up to fight to garner maximum sales and chart performance with their best EPs and albums. However, the year-end line-up for 2023 is particularly packed with over 25 artists’ October comebacks and many more scheduled for November and December.

If you are wondering why the industry is rushing to join this train of releases, then you are not alone. Although the last quarter of the year gets a boost in most industries due to the holiday season, it is also a time when the competition is at its peak. Then how come so many K-pop artists aim to make a breakthrough during the conclusion of the year? Let’s explore this question and check out the October comebacks of 2023.

Why 25+ K-pop artists are having October comebacks?

The K-pop artists’ line-up for October comebacks 2023 is extravagant, with many successful third-generation artists such as SEVENTEEN and CNBLUE releasing their latest pieces, alongside a choc-a-bloc of 4th generation artists, including aespa, ITZY, and (G)I-DLE.

To add to the overwhelming releases, many solo artists such as B.I, BOBBY, and MAMAMOO Wheein are scheduled to unveil their latest projects. This appears like a bombastic schedule, but it is based on strategic decisions taken by keeping several variables in mind, including the chances of sales, audience engagement, promotional platforms, and more. Let’s explore them in detail below:

1. Award shows and events

All the major award shows and music events, including the Mnet Asian Music Awards, The Fact Music Awards, and Golden Disk Awards, are scheduled at the end of the year. With new releases, artists can showcase their grandiose performances to a vast audience and gain public recognition.

2. Holiday season

The year-end is lined up with celebrations, including Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s. These not only set up a stage for seasonal festivities but also help boost engagement. Secondly, as the year-end is a season of gifts, the music, physical album, and merchandise sales also show a significant increase.

3. Comeback planning

As we already know, even a mini-album or EP release requires extensive preparations. In addition to writing, composing, and recording, the artists also shoot music videos, concept photos, poster photos, and photo cards. They also master the choreographies for various tracks and prepare to shoot the performances for multiple platforms. All of these preparations end up pushing the comeback to the fourth quarter.

4. Global recognition

With each new release, K-pop is further growing as a global industry. Due to this, many agencies aim to gain international recognition for their artists through the year-end releases. As more and more people engage in music with a holiday spirit, it becomes a peak time for discovering new acts.

5. Competition

While competition or clash of releases might seem inappropriate for reaching more audiences, it can also work profitably. Amid the ocean of October comebacks, K-pop artists can stand out and garner even more praise for their talent. This also makes the year-end releases a double-edged sword.
