There is only one go-to video game when it comes to simulating the NBA, and it has been the NBA 2k franchise. For many years now, it has been the leading in the basketball simulation genre after taking the throne from EA’s NBA Live many years ago. Although playing as Michael Jordan or LeBron James is already at the tip of our fingers, NBA is still missing some All-Time greats in the game’s library.
Two of the most notable players on that list are Hall-of-Famers – Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller. However, with a recent decision made by the NBA, there’s a high chance we will be seeing Barkley and Miller in the game and we are going to show you why.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) just recently shared with the public that they have decided to pay all former ABA (American Basketball Association) players a hefty amount of $24.5 Million.
- A total of 115 former ABA players will share the amount that is meant for them to at least live comfortably for the rest of their lives. Coincidentally, this has been what Charles Barkley has been fighting for. In the past, Chuck has stated that he never wants to be part of NBA 2k because he wants the NBA and the videogame company to pay homage to former players via cash incentives.
- He also added that the league and the developers are getting huge revenues from the players thus they need to at least give back to the alumni association. Because of that, Barkley never had a contract with 2k Games, thus they cannot his image and likeness. On the other hand, Reggie Miller never confirmed the reason behind his absence from the game.
- As of now, there is still no announcement whether Chuck or Reggie will be in NBA 2k23. But in light of the recent events, that could change very soon. With NBA agreeing to pay the amount to the pioneers of the game, there’s a great chance that sir Charles may now agree to be added to NBA 2k.
For added information, there were also a lot of missing players in NBA 2k22 which you might have noticed. Some of which were legends like Rasheed Wallace, Joe Johnson, Ron Artest, and many more. You can take a look at the list here.

On a side note, NBA 2k23 is just right around the corner. The latest NBA 2k game will be officially released on September 8, 2022, and will feature Devin Booker and Michael Jordan as cover players.

With is concern resolved, We may see charles Barkley in 2k24. But Reggie Miller have not made it clear why he chose not to be in the game which makes it most unlikely he never will be part of the 2k family.
