PlayStation State of Play Reveals 4 New Games and Major PS5 Release Dates
PlayStation packed its September State of Play with new games, release dates and deeper looks at projects heading to PS5. The presentation mixed major franchises with several surprises, giving players plenty to think about as 2026 moves into its final months.
Fresh announcements also offered a glimpse at how game development is stretching from ambitious open worlds to smaller experimental adventures. With gaming entering a crowded release period, the showcase put several top upcoming video game releases firmly on the calendar.
Key Takeaways
PlayStation’s September State of Play showcased four new game announcements, several major PS5 release dates, and updates on upcoming titles, highlighting the diversity of game development and filling the calendar for players through 2027.
- The State of Play revealed four new games: Maneater 2, Uncanyon, Rhapsody in Scarlet, and Hunter’s Moon, adding variety beyond established franchises.
- Several major PS5 titles received release dates, including Until Dawn 2 (January 2027), Metro 2039 (February 2027), Gundam Rogue Orbit (March 2027), and the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Revelation (April 2027).
- Beyond games, Sony also announced GTA VI-themed DualSense controllers and a LEGO model of the original PlayStation, rounding out the presentation with hardware and collectibles.
New games emerge
Four previously unseen titles were among the biggest surprises, starting with Maneater 2. Tripwire Interactive’s sequel returns to the shark-powered chaos of the original, this time placing its man-eating bull shark inside Neptune’s Kingdom, a luxury island theme park filled with unusual wildlife and dangerous experiments. The sequel is scheduled for 2027.
Graceful Decay also introduced Uncanyon, a puzzle-focused adventure set in a forgotten world shaped by converging realities. Players will manipulate those realities while exploring mysterious ruins when the game arrives next year.
Konami took a different route with Rhapsody in Scarlet, an action adventure combining a fantasy version of 1920s New York with jazz, magic and beasts. Hunter’s Moon added horror to the mix, sending players into 17th-century England during a single night inspired by historical witch hunts, with an October 26 launch planned.
Together, the four reveals brought some welcome variety to a show packed with familiar names and reflected the range of gaming industry innovations appearing beyond established franchises.
Dates start filling
These top upcoming video game releases now have firm dates. Until Dawn 2 arrives January 28, 2027, following the Dead True ghost-hunting crew through Blackwood Sanatorium and Akishima Island, where player decisions can have deadly consequences.
Metro 2039 follows on February 4, while Gundam Rogue Orbit lands March 5. September’s presentation also gave Marvel’s Wolverine one final trailer before its September 15 release, showing more of Logan’s allies and enemies.
October will bring Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition and its new Most Wanted survival mode on October 1. Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown follows on October 15, adding more adventures to Pearl Abyss’ world.
Final Fantasy closes big
Square Enix saved one of the biggest updates for last. Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027, concluding the remake trilogy with a larger world that players can explore using the Highwind, chocobos, parachutes and a grappling gun.
Combat is expanding through the new FITS system, while certain quests can change depending on which party member takes the lead. The Highwind doubles as a base of operations, and players can switch characters while exploring.
Beyond the games themselves, Sony revealed GTA VI-themed DualSense controllers launching November 19 and a LEGO model of the original PlayStation. With sequels, new IP and hardware sharing the stage, the event delivered a broad slice of entertainment and gave gaming fans plenty to watch heading into 2027.
