Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Who are the new members of the team and what are their powers?
Rocket Raccoon
Starting with the new “Cap’n” of the Guardians of the Galaxy and one of the oldest members, Rocket Racoon. Fans around the world anticipated his death at the end of the movie, but instead, Rocket was the main highlight of the movie. Rocket’s past life and encounter with High Evolutionary saddened the audience and shed a few tears in the theatres.
Rocket is also one of the most favorite characters of James Gunn in the series. The character evolution of Rocket has been impeccable. He has grown up from being a greedy bounty hunter to a caring Guardian of the Galaxy fighting evil across different planets.
Even though he spent most of the movie in critical condition, he still made his mark in the hearts of the fans. When Star-Lord elects him as the new captain of the Guardians of the Galaxy, he leaves his Zune to Rocket as a gift to keep up the team. He played the song, “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbones in his first mission to a planet.
Adam Warlock
In the post-credit scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, High Priestess Ayesha was seen preparing a cocoon for a new child called Adam. However, Adam didn’t complete his evolution as the High Evolutionary took him out of the cocoon prematurely and thus he is a Child in the embodiment of an adult.
Will Poulter has played this role incredibly well, creating a benchmark for his role as Adam Warlock. When Adam saves Quill’s life in space, he wins everyone’s heart and the fans have welcomed him as an ally to the Guardians.
Adam Warlock is a powerful ally to the Guardians who will help them in many ways through his incredible physical strength and super speed. He would also learn a lot of things from a caring family that is the other Guardians.
Groot
From being a baby in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, to a bratty teenager in Avengers: Infinity War, Groot is now a fully grown tree. He is to Rocket what Chewbacca is to Han Solo.
In this movie, the fans have witnessed Groot’s immense physical and mental growth. In the mid-credit scene, it was also found that he can transform himself to be a huge boulder the size of a small house to rest the Guardians.
Groot is an important asset to the Guardians of the Galaxy and he lived up to the expectations of the fans in this movie.
Cosmo the Space Dog
Speaking of cute Marvel pets, Cosmo the Space Dog has won our hearts. Maria Bakalova voiced this amazing space dog, adding comic relief to the entire movie.
Cosmo made her debut in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie where she was a collectible in Knowhere to the kleptomaniac Collector. Even though Knowhere was thoroughly destroyed in Avengers: Infinity War, however, she found her way to safety and she also made an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special.
Cosmo is known for her impeccable skills of shooting the target and berating Kraglin the entire time because he called her a “Bad dog.”
Kraglin
Even though fans have known Kraglin for his inheritance of Yondu’s fin, he’s now a new addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy team.
Sean Gunn in this movie is the perfect casting for his role as Kraglin and his final development to know how to control his fin and defeat the High Evolutionary’s attack on Knowhere. The movie also holds up to his character development, which is loved by fans worldwide.
Phyla
The most mysterious character in the new Guardians of the Galaxy members is undoubtedly Phyla. Phyla is a genetically modified human being who is programmed by the High Evolutionary to sustain life on Counter-Earth with minimal requirements.
When she was rescued she didn’t know how to speak in English, however, in the mid-credit scene, Rocket and other Guardians have helped her learn the language and they are arguing about which song is their favorite among all.
Phyla probably has some more powers which would be unveiled soon enough probably during Avengers: Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars. Given this fact, Phyla is also known to be the Kree descendant of Mar-Vell in the comics.
Whether she’s intellectually gifted or physically, Phyla will prove to be extremely handy in the entire Guardians team and would embark on her journey to new adventures!
In conclusion
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has set new standards in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only did the movie leave the audience with teary eyes, but also made them laugh their hearts out. The movie is termed as a benchmark for other Marvel movies that would be released in Phase 5 and 6 for the next few years.
